Professional Installation Guidelines
For best results, Dekguard should be applied using a 3/8” nap roller cover, ensuring long, even, and uniform strokes. The coverage rate varies between 250–350 square feet per gallon, depending on the concrete substrate. An airless sprayer with a 519 tip size may also be used for efficient application. It is essential to apply the sealer at the correct thickness. If applied too thickly or allowed to puddle, the sealer may turn cloudy or white and fail to form a proper film. Conversely, applying too thinly can lead to flaking or delamination over time.
Once applied, allow 24 hours for the surface to cure before permitting light foot traffic and at least 48 hours before exposing it to heavy traffic. If multiple coats are required, a waiting period of 4 to 6 hours between applications is necessary. To achieve uniform coverage and maximum durability, two coats are recommended.
Proper safety measures should always be followed during application. Protective gloves, respirators, and appropriate safety clothing should be worn to minimize exposure. Dekguard should not be diluted or mixed with any solvent, as this can compromise its integrity and effectiveness. Additionally, be mindful that sealed surfaces can become slippery when wet. To enhance traction and safety, consider adding non-skid additives to achieve the desired coefficient of friction.
Finally, extreme caution should be exercised when applying Dekguard near open flames, active pilot lights, sparks, heaters, smoking areas, or electric motors, as it is a flammable material. By adhering to these guidelines, you can ensure a long-lasting, professional-grade finish that protects and enhances your concrete surfaces.
